Let’s ME-AT the alternative
Around the world, demand for safe and healthy foods is increasing. Expectations are that the global population will grow to 9.8 billion people by 2050. In a global marketplace and on a planet that is under pressure from the overuse of resources, we at Vion believe in a world where people enjoy safe and healthy food from sustainable sources. Our start-up ME-AT is a food designer that focuses on the development of high-quality vegan alternatives.
In Leeuwarden, the Netherlands, the former beef production location has been specially redeveloped to house production of the vegan products of ME-AT. The site can be scaled up to add more production lines, freezing facilities and a larger storage capacity.
Product development, marketing and sales are taken care of from the locations at Boxtel and Groenlo. In total, approximately 20 employees work for ME-AT. The vegan products are available in supermarkets in the Netherlands and Germany from the start of 2020.
Willem/General manager ME-AT
Willem started working at Vion immediately after graduation and has held various positions over the past years, such as planner, product manager and sales manager. Since 2019, he is general manager at ME-AT responsible for managing the team within Vion’s new start-up for vegan products.
ME-AT represents “smart protein” – 100 % plant-based (soya, wheat and peas), full of protein. Starting with five new products: a vegan hamburger, minced meat, a crispy fillet schnitzel, fillet pieces and chipolata sausages, the current range will likely be expanded at short notice with new vegan products.
