Joost Coremans (35)

Project Manager Logistics & Manager Logistics

What has your career been like?

I had a holiday job at VION Ingredients (Rendac). I enjoyed it so much that after school I started working for transport planning. I have worked there for 14 years now and have held several positions culminating in becoming Project Manager Logistics, VION Ingredients, and Manager Logistics, VION Ingredients Netherlands.

What is important to you in your work?

I want to learn and improve every day. I enjoy seeking new opportunities for improving our service with our team, to lower costs and to get the most from ourselves.

What are your tasks?

My position is characterised by its variety, I fulfil a number of roles in which I seek to create efficiency for the many transports we deal with and for adjacent disciplines. I also facilitate new computerised options for controlling logistics such as the on-board computers in the lorries.

What are the challenges you face?

We are busy implementing the new Fallen stock project. We are going to computerise the entire order process for cadaver collection from livestock farmers within the ERP system. A fun assignment, because the desired functionality differs considerably from standard ERP!

What interests you in your work?

Its diversity. I deal with all the aspects of transport - from devising new collection concepts and specific vehicles, to contact with the government in connection with the combatting of animal diseases.

What does your team mean to you?

On a daily basis, I enjoy watching the team do everything in its power to meet one of VION’s strategic pillars: operational excellence. Every day, the team works to provide maximum service at the lowest possible price. The ‘we did it’ feeling when the challenges we encounter have been conquered is important.

What is VION’s culture like?

A flat organisation with growth potential and space to capitalise on opportunities. You are allowed to make and learn from mistakes, and are valued for the successes you achieve. A stimulating, not hampering environment!

What makes VION an appealing employer?

The company keeps developing. We develop and approach new products and markets as is the case with Ecoson’s sustainable production. Learning instances and opportunities! I deal with a variety of disciplines: colleagues with different insights who challenge you to shift your boundaries.

What has been your best moment so far?

I’ve led a team of over 100 staff since I was 28. An enormous challenge and VION invests in my personal growth. For example, alongside my job I was able to take a business administration course. It’s great to be able to use those insights to further develop myself within the company.
