I started working at VION in January 2011 as a management trainee. I work for VION Food Netherlands. I studied business administration in Rotterdam.
I want to learn more during my work. As a management trainee you are given the opportunity to work at three different business units over a two-year period, which provides you with a quick introduction to the company.
At the moment I am involved in a project that involves analysing meat processing logistics within the Dutch organisation as a whole. To this end, we are examining where this process could be optimised. I am also working on a project together with VION’s CSR coordinator, substantiating the sustainability agenda.
I really enjoy understanding the entire production process. Not just an element, but the entire thing: from the purchase of live animals to providing clients with meat and food products.
Even though VION is an enormous company this is not that apparent in day-to-day business. Lines of communication are short and the atmosphere is open. We should be more proud of our company sometimes!
The food sector is indispensible. The entire agricultural sector faces massive challenges as by 2050 the world will be home to nine billion humans. VION has also engaged with this. Now that’s what I call a challenge!
Over a two-year period I will spend time working for three different business units. As it stands: two periods of six months at VION Food Netherlands, six months at VION Food Germany and six months at VION Food UK.
I expect to learn a great deal! Including knowledge about meat as a product, the entire meat and food sector and the business operations at VION’s various divisions. Naturally, I also hope to be able to further develop myself!
